NexusLA has partnered with Innovation Catalyst, the NO/LA Angel Network and others to educate and inform about early stage investing, to provide networking opportunities between investors and to showcase high potential deals.
NexusLA has identified more than 400 capital and resource providers in Southeastern Louisiana who will assist entrepreneurs and growth-focused companies. They can be accessed via the Louisiana Entrepreneur Assistance Portal (LEAP) on the NexusLA website. LEAP also lists approximately 25 to 50 regional events per month that convene, educate and inform entrepreneurs and business leaders.
NexusLA coordinates Baton Rouge Entrepreneurship Week activities, a celebration of innovation, entrepreneurship and small business in the Baton Rouge region. BREW is held during the second week of November each year to coincide with Global Entrepreneurship Week. MicroBREW events are held at various times throughout the year to showcase small business innovation and to provide networking opportunities for Baton Rouge’s best and brightest.
The BizTech Challenge is an annual pitch competition and talent showcase for students from Louisiana's Historical Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) held in conjunction with the iconic Bayou Classic football game at the New Orleans Superdome. The BizTech Challenge demonstrates student teams' solutions to business, technical or social challenges issued to all six HBCU campuses in Louisiana. In our 2016 challenge, 68 students grouped in 19 teams competed for cash and prizes totaling more than $38,000. The $10,000 grand prize was awarded to the winning team in front of 68,000 football fans just prior to the Bayou Classic football game between Southern University and Grambling State University.
